What does it mean to be S.O.B.E.R.? – B: Be Creative

This is the third video in a series where I share my S.O.B.E.R. method from my book, Sonic Recovery: Harness the Power of Music to Stay Sober. This week we focus on the “B” in SOBER, which stands for – Be Creative.

B = Be Creative

Clinical Outcome: “Clients will engage in creative arts and/or music-making to increase creativity as a coping skill.”

Everyone may not be artistic, but everyone is inherently creative. Creativity is simply a coping skill we utilize to solve problems. It’s not talent. It’s in every one of us. When we make music, we engage that muscle in the state of play. It’s pleasurable and powerful.

With over a decade of experience as a board-certified music therapist, I’ve been able to help thousands of people unlock their creativity, even if they’ve never picked up an instrument before.

How Music Making Helps Us Be Creative
